TRUSTED BY INVESTORS SINCE 1990

First issued in 1990, the Australian Kookaburra is a trusted silver bullion coin series featuring imagery of the iconic bird that draws its name from the Wiradjuri word ‘gugubarra’. First Nations people, who have lived here for tens of thousands of years, tell numerous stories about the kookaburra, and it has subsequently been idolized in contemporary Australian arts and literature.

2023 KOOKABURRA DESIGN

The 34th annual Kookaburra design portrays two birds perched on branches surrounding the waratah, a native floral treasure. The design incorporates the inscription ‘KOOKABURRA’, The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark, the 2023 year-date, and the coin’s weight and purity.

OBVERSE DESIGN

The coin portrays the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

AUTHENTICATION FEATURE

The coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.

LIMITED PRODUCTION RUN

The coin is subject to an unlimited mintage, however, production will close at the end of 2023, after which The Perth Mint will declare the coin’s final mintage number.

ABOUT THE PERTH MINT

The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as the British Royal Mint’s 3rd branch in Australia. The historical Hay Street location handled gold refining until moving to a modern facility in April 1990. Ownership of the mint was transferred to the Government of Western Australia in July of 1970. Under an agreement with the Commonwealth Treasury, they were empowered to mint and market gold, silver, and platinum as Australian legal tender to investors and collectors worldwide. Today, they are amongst the elite world mints whose pure gold, silver, and platinum items are trusted without question. Items such as the Australian Nugget, Silver Coin Series (Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala, and Platypus to name a few), as well as the Australian Lunar Gold and Silver Coin Series are extensively sought after by bullion investors worldwide.
